The additions made to the beginning of the Mos Eisley scene do add unneeded padding, though they can be removed. Greedo never even got a shot off in the theatrical cut of Star Wars. For example, I'm rather ambivalent about the infamous Mos Eisley scene Han's still a badass either way - and would remain so until the feminist-fanfiction trilogy, where he abandoned his wife and son and his beloved ship (yeah, no, to all three of that).
